12/20/2008 - St. Louis, MO (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Roman Polak registered a goal and an assist, and Manny Legace stopped 24-of-26 shots, as the St. Louis Blues doubled up the slumping Minnesota Wild, 4-2, at the Scottrade Center.
Patrik Berglund and David Backes also scored for the Blues, who avoided matching their season-high losing streak of six games.
Nick Schultz and Pierre-Marc Bouchard had the goals for Minnesota, which is 2-7-1 in the month of December. Niklas Backstrom gave up three goals on 23 shots in defeat.
Trailing 2-1, Bouchard found the back of the net 2:21 into the third period. Antti Miettinen collected a loose puck along the left boards and sent it blindly to the low slot for the crafty Bouchard, who slid a backhander past the left pad of Legace.
Polak, though, restored the lead 30 seconds later. Keith Tkachuk carried down the left side and made a drop pass to Brad Boyes, who fanned on his shot. Boyes, the former first-round pick, gathered the disc, swept it across to Polak, who banged it home for his first career NHL tally.
Legace made a series of unbelievable saves in the final moments, with Backstrom on the bench, before Jay McClement scored an empty-net marker in the waning seconds to seal the win.
Berglund, among the rookie leaders in scoring, put St. Louis on the board just 1:19 into the contest, then Schultz netted the equalizer at 5:59.
The Blues regained the lead with 9:30 remaining in the first period on Backes' fourth tally in as many games.
Both netminders were impenetrable in the middle stanza, as Backstrom turned aside seven shots and Legace made six saves.

Sportsbook betting odds favor Europe in Ryder Cup
September 19, – Despite holding a decided edge in the all-time series, with 24 wins, 2 ties and 10 losses, Team USA is the underdog again heading into the Ryder Cup in Kidare, Ireland this weekend, according to MySportsbook.com. The Europeans have captured four of the past five editions, including their largest victory ever, an 18 ½ to 9 ½ thumping in Michigan in 2004. Current Ryder Cup betting odds favor the Europeans to continue their winning ways; they are a 4-5 bet to take the title, compared to 6-5 for the Americans.
Despite being knocked out in the first round of World Match play by Shaun Micheel, Tiger Woods is predicted to lead the US charge and be their highest point scorer for the week, with odds listed at 9-4 that he outpoints all other American players, including Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Chris DiMarco to name a few. Team USA has four relatively unknown players on the roster but all four are 2007 tournament winners and have posted some of season’s best performances, each earning over $1.5 million on the PGA TOUR. They include Zach Johnson, Vaughan Taylor, JJ Henry and Brett Wetterich.
The experienced European squad includes the likes of Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Jose Maria Olazabal and Darren Clarke, who’s emotions will be tested after the passing of his wife to a battle with cancer. Donald and Garcia are in particularly good form and each is a 5-1 bet to lead the European squad in the points race. Donald has proven he can go head to head with Woods at a major event after a run for the $1.2 million purse at the PGA Championship. Garcia’s Ryder Cup credentials prove he’s ready for battle too.
